Khajuraho Dance Festival, an annual cultural event, commenced since 2002 AD under the auspices of Kala Parishad, an organization of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department. The festival is named after the temples premises where it takes place. Every year, this grand cultural festival takes place in the open air amidst temples of Khajuraho. The stage of dance performances is installed either in front of Chitragupta Temple or in front of Vishwanath Temple. Khajuraho temples in Madhya Pradesh are famous for their archaeological excellence. The temples were built during Chandela dynasty between 850 AD and 1,050 AD. The temples of Khajuraho strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture. In the year 1986 AD, UNESCO designated this group of temples as a World Heritage Site. Temples of Khajuraho are very famous among the tourists who come to India on cultural tours.

Khajuraho Dance Festival brings together all that India has from renowned artists. Famous classical dancers from all over India perform during this dance festival in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. Entrance to the festival is free, which is one of the reasons why the festival is so well attended. The event is organized in the month of February but the dates vary every year.
