The famous Jain temples of Ranakpur, built in the early 15th century by a merchant named Dharan Shah are 98 km south of Udaipur. Ranakpur is a small village (near the town of Sadri in the Pali district in Rajasthan) located in the heart of the enchanting valley of Aravali hills. The village is considered an important pilgrimage site for the Jain community. The city is home to a unusually beautiful temple complex which is dedicated to Adinatha, the first of 24 Tirthankaras of Jain.

Superb sculptures of these temples, the Charmukha Temple, is a three-storeyed structure with four subsidiary shrines – 80 domes supported by 1444 columns engraved with images related to the Jain faith. A quadruple image of Lord Adinath is in the inner temple.

Ranakpur took its name from the Rajput ruler Rana Khumba. According to facts, Rana Khumba gave a huge ground for the construction of Jain temple in its area to Dharna Shah. He was the businessman and builder of Ranakpur Jain temple.

When to visit Ranakpur?

The weather is nice for most of the year. The days are hot during the months of May and June. The countryside around Ranakpur is very beautiful during the monsoon season (from July to October). A visit to the Ranakpur Jain temple can be arranged with other Rajasthan destinations. So the best time to visit Ranakpur is between July and April.
