They consider it as “Teertharaj” means the one which is at top among all the pilgrims or the king of all Hindu pilgrims.The town is rich in terms of temples and ghats and most of them are from 18th centuries. It is said that the town has almost 52 ghats whereas 500 temples including large and small ones. Some temples were destroyed by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb which was rebuilt later. The Brahma Temple is the most famous among all the temples.
