Jhalrapatan

Jhalrapatan is known as the city of temple bells and is located about 7km away from Jhalawar. The entire city is surrounded by a wall. It was founded on the banks of the holy river Chandrabhaga by Parmara Chandra Sen, the grandson of Maharaja Vikramaditya. Colonel James Todd mentions in his records around 108 temples here, including the famous, 100-meter high Surya Mandir (Sun Temple) of the 10th century, located within its ancient walls. The Sun Temple is full of beautiful sculptures. Nearby is another group of magnificent temples. These temples belong to the 6th to 14th centuries. The Shantinath Jain Temple and Shri Dwarkadheesh Temple of the 11th century (built by Jhala Zalim Singh) are among the other important temples of the city. The 11th century AD Shantinath Jain Temple is remarkable with good wall paintings and exquisite sculptures. Very close to the temple are new herbal gardens & Choupati Dwarkadhish which are also worth a visit.
