Day 2
Ellora & Aurangabad sightseeing – Pune (250 km / 5 Hours)
Have breakfast and proceed for guided sightseeing tour of Ellora Caves, Bibi ka Maqbara and Panchakki.
The Ellora Caves are a remarkable complex of 34 rock-cut temples and monasteries. Dating from the 6th to the 10th century, they represent three major religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. The most famous is the Kailasa Temple, an enormous monolithic structure dedicated to Lord Shiva, renowned for its intricate carvings and architectural grandeur. These caves showcase a confluence of different faiths and artistic traditions, reflecting ancient India's religious tolerance and cultural diversity. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Ellora stands as a testament to the country's rich heritage and architectural prowess.
Bibi Ka Maqbara is a 17th-century mausoleum built by Azam Shah in memory of his mother, Dilras Banu Begum. Often called the "Taj of the Deccan" due to its striking resemblance to the Taj Mahal, this monument is constructed with marble and stucco. It showcases the architectural elegance with its grand dome, intricate carvings, and beautiful gardens. It is surrounded by well-maintained gardens.
Panchakki of Aurangabad is a 17th-century water mill renowned for its ingenious engineering. Built by Turktaz Khan, it harnesses water from a distant spring on a mountain using gravity. The water, channeled through earthen pipes, drives the mill to grind grain for the pilgrims and residents of the adjacent dargah of Baba Shah Musafir, a Sufi saint. Surrounded by a serene garden and a reservoir, Panchakki exemplifies medieval Indian ingenuity in hydraulic engineering, blending utility with spirituality.
After visiting Ellora and other tourist attractions of Aurangabad, depart for Pune.
