There are a lot of temples in the city which is visited by the devotees from all over the world. Each temple and each place of the city is special for the visitors. One of the most fascinating and unique temples to visit in the city is the Bharat Mata Temple. The Bharat Mata Temple is dedicated to Bharat Mata or Mother India. Therefore, it is famous by the name of Mother India Temple as well. This temple was inaugurated in 1983 by Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. The shrine was founded by Swami Satyamitranand Giri.

In 1905, Abanindranath Tagore had portrayed Bharat Mata as a four armed Hindu Goddess who wears a saffron coloured robe, and holds a book, a mala (garland), a white cloth, and sheaves of rice. It is said that the image of Bharat Mata was created to encourage the feeling of nationalism amongst the freedom fighters. This temple was inaugurated to show respect and honour to all the people who took part in India’s Independence struggle along with the statues of some Hindu gods. The main aim of this temple is to show the unity and oneness in India even through its diversity. Bharat Mata stands for unity, integrity, oneness, and similarity. It, therefore, sends message that there should be no barrier of caste, creed, sex, and religion amongst the Indians. The aim here is to spread nationalism and respect to the freedom fighters and the martyrs of the country.

The temple complex has eight storeys or floors. The height of the temple is 180 feet. Each of these floors has pictures of the cities, great men, and the heroes. There are idols of various gods, goddesses, heroic people, kings, revolutionists, and leaders. All the floors of the Bharat Mata Mandir are devoted to some theme. The third floor is dedicated to Indian super women like Meera Bai, Maitrei, Savitri, etc and called as Matri Mandir. The fourth floor is called as the Sant Mandir and dedicated to the saints of all religions like that of Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Hinduism. The fifth floor is an assembly hall with the walls that depict symbolic co-existence of all religions that are practised in India. The 6th floor is dedicated to Goddess Shakti of the Hindu culture and has various forms of her over there. All the incarnations of Lord Vishnu can be seen on the 7th floor.
