Juna Mahal

Almost as old as the Dungarpur city itself, Juna Mahal is known as the Old Palace as well. The construction of this Old Palace was begun in the turbulent 13th century using the superb natural defense of a rocky summit about 1500 feet above sea level. These seven story structures resemble a fortress with crenellated walls, turrets and narrow entrances and passages to slow down the enemy. Inside, one will see the most colorful and living pieces of architecture, embellished with frescoes, miniature paintings and glass and mirror inlay work. Juna Mahal still belongs to the royal family and can be visited on invitation only.
