McLeodganj

Originally home to the semi-nomadic Gaddi tribe, McLeodganj is today the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. McLeodganj was developed as a British garrison in mid-19th century. The site was conceived as an important administrative point for the whole of the Kangra valley. Today, the place has developed as the seat of the Tibetan government in exile. The impressive monastery has large images on the lives of Buddha, Padmasambhava and Avaloketeshwara.

The major attraction of western Himachal Pradesh is a few kilometers away from Dharmasala, at McLeodganj . It is the seat of the Tibetan government in exile and the residence of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. Tsuglagkhang Temple here is the medical and astrological institute and the library of Tibetan archives.
