Jaisalmer is a beautiful city of Rajasthan that carries the aura of authentic Rajput legacy. Jaisalmer was built by a Rajput king Raja Rawal Jaisal. He was a Bhatti Rajput ruler. He founded this city in the 12th century in 1156 AD. It was during this time itself that the city reached all the heights of success and gained prosperity. The legends believe that he made this city on an authoritative order of a local hermit, Eesaal. The Bhatti clan governed Jaisalmer till 1818. Post this, Mulraj formed a political alliance with the Britishers to save the dying state. Even today, some people of the Bhatti clan are involved in the development of the city. Brijraj Singh is the present descendant of the city from the Bhatti clan. In 1818 itself, Jaisalmer came under the British protectorate in the Rajputana Agency. Maharawal Raghunath Singh was theist king of the place.

The first king of Jaisalmer was Rajput king Raja Rawal Jaisal who was also the founder of the city. Salim Singh was the first prime minister of the state in 1815 when it was formed. He is the one who is responsible for the astounding architectural delights of the city. Though he was a responsible person, the history says that he was not a very good person.

  • Gadisar Lake: One of the prettiest places of Jaisalmer is Gadisar lake. It was built for the purpose of conservation reservoir for rainwater harvesting.
