This sanctuary is devoted to the mother of god Vishnu's incarnation of the twins, Nar and Narayan. She was a lady who prayed to god Vishnu, asked him for being her son. Vishnu said there is no other like me in this universe, so he himself came into her womb as the twins Nar and Narayan. Afterward, Nar and Narayan slaughtered a beast. Thus, Mata Murti Temple is dedicated to mother of Badri Vishal Ji. An annual religious festival, called Mata Murti Festival, is celebrated to commemorate the visit of Nar- Narayan to meet his mother.
