Shaking Minarets are an example of a most ingenious feat of building engineering. Situated outside the Sarangpur Gate, these towers, also called Sidi Bashir's Mosque, were built in 1450. Two 3-storeyed minarets, girdled by balconies, stand side by side. If you shake one, the other one shakes on its own. If you bang on one, the echo is produced in the other. The site of Shaking Minaret or trembling minarets is one of the most famous attractions of the city. The particularity of the place lies in the mystery that when one of the towers is shaken, one feels the vibrations emitted in the second tower located further. But the most amazing aspect of the Shaking Minarets is that while the two minarets vibrate, the passage connecting the two remains free of any movement.
