Day 1

Chennai- Mahabalipuram

Upon arrival at Chennai airport, you will be driven directly to Mahabalipuram to Mahabalipuram. On arrival at Mahabalipuram, you will be transferred to Mahabalipuram hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2

Mahabalipuram sightseeing tour

Having enjoyed breakfast in Mahabalipuram hotel, sally out to explore rich architectural and sculptural heritage of Mamallapuram with Mahabalipuram tour guide who will receive you in the lobby of the hotel. Move for enjoying sightseeing and seashore of Mahabalipuram. Shore temple and five Rathas (monolith chariots) are prime tourist attractions of ancient port of Mahabalipuram, built in 7th century by the rulers of Pallava dynasty. Day 4

Puducherry - Tanjore - Tanjore sightseeing tour

The South India with Goa Tour, onward Pondicherry to Madurai, is primarily temples tour. Mammoth temples of Tamil Nadu are architectural gems of South India and are cultural centers of respective regions. Have early morning breakfast, check out from Pondicherry hotel and proceed for historical city of Tanjore. En route visit Kumbakonam, Darasuram, Gangaikondacholapuram, and Chidambaram temples etc. Built on huge scale by Pandya and Chola kings, Chidambaram temple is famous for Lord Shiva’s 108 postures of ‘tandava’ dance engraved on the gopurams walls and 1000 pillared hall called ‘Rajasabha’. Classical dance festival of Chidambaram is very famous. Two temples, Gangaikondacholapuram and Darasuram, are built by Rajendra Chola. Both of these temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Visiting all these grand temples on the way, arrive at Tanjore and check in at the designated hotel. Relax a bit and move for short sightseeing of Tanjore that includes Tanjore Palace and Brihadareeshwar Temple. Tanjore, a historical city, was formerly a capital city of the Chola rulers of Tamil Nadu. The Chola rulers are known as great temple builders.

The Tanjore has maintained the glorious Chola culture. Sri Brahadeeswara Temple, built by Chola ruler Raj Raja in 10th century, is one of the most stupendous temples. Another finest piece of architecture and major tourist attraction of Tanjore is Tanjore Palace, built by the Nayakas in 1550 AD. Marathas also contributed to the extension, expansion and embellishment of Tanjore Palace. Tanjore Palace is famous for huge corridors, spacious halls, armoury towers, observation towers and music hall. Day 5

Tanjore –Trichy- Madurai - Trichy & Madurai tour

Have early morning breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed for Madurai, known as Kashi of South India. En route visit historical city of Trichy or Trichirapally. On arrival at Trichy, proceed for sightseeing of Tiruchirapally which is situated on the bank of river Cavery. The city was a Chola citadel from Sangam age. The Pandyas and Pallavas held sway over this region for short periods. The Nayaks of Madurai built the town and the historic rock fort which played a vital role in Carnatic wars in 18 century. Prime attractions of Trichy are Srirangam and Rangnathar. Srirangam, a 600 acre island-town and protected by seven walls of Sri Ranganathaswami Temple, is the biggest temple complex in India. An annual Car Festival is held in Sri Rangnathaswami in January during which a decorated wooden chariot is pulled through the streets between various walls.

Have sumptuous lunch in Trichy and early noon, move for Madurai. On arrival at Madurai, you will be taken to Madurai hotel. Relax and refresh a bit and proceed for sightseeing of Madurai. Madurai is a historical and religious city. Known as ‘Kashi of South’, Madurai, situated on the banks of Vaigai River, is more than 2500 years old city. Madurai, since the beginning, has been under the reign of the Pandyans, barring a brief period of Chola rule and 200 years rule of the Nayakas. Interestingly, the Nayakas rule is termed as golden age of Madurai when the city made stunning strides in art, architecture and learning.

On arrival at Madurai, check in at the pre-booked hotel. Afternoon, visit Tirumalai Nayak Mahal and Vaniyur Mariamman Teppakulam. But the feast to the eyes is Meenakshi Temple. More than 2000 years old Meenakshi Temple was enlarged and brought to present status by Nayaka rulers. 1000 pillared ‘mandapam’ is an attraction of Meenkashi Temple’s architecture, as every pillar is uniquely sculptured. Meenakshi Temple is the best example of Dravidian style of temple architecture.

Madurai- Munnar - Munnar sightseeing tour

Have breakfast in Madurai hotel, check out and move for Munnar, the only hill station of Kerala- the state which is known as ‘God’s Own Country’. Explore the green aspects of Munnar. Watch spectacular beauty of tea gardens. Visit the century-old tea factories where you can taste and pick up the finest tea in the country. Day 7

Munnar-Alleppey

Having taken delicious breakfast in Munnar hotel, proceed to Alleppey, famous for its backwaters. On arrival at Alleppey, check-in at houseboat. Cochin - Wynad

After breakfast in Cochin hotel, proceed for Wynad. Adjoining Kozhicode is Wynad, a place of plantations of coffee, tea, cardamom, pepper and rubber. One of the most beautiful places in the hilly regions of Kerala, Wynad is located on the foothill borders of the state adjacent to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. This low hill region is the home of several sects of the tribals of Kerala who have built some shrines for the village deities.

Day 12

Mumbai sightseeing tour-Goa (by air)

After early breakfast at the hotel, you will be met by Optima India Tourism representative and Mumbai tour guide. Check out from Mumbai hotel and proceed for sightseeing of Mumbai. Sightseeing of Mumbai includes Gateway of India, Prince of Wales Museum (closed on Mondays), Marine Lines and Mani Bhawan (Where Mahatma Gandhi used to stay). Also drive past Afghan church, Flora Fountain (Bombay nerve-centre), colourful Crawford Market and Marine Drive. After sightseeing tour, move to Mumbai airport to board plane for Goa. Goa

The day has been kept free for relaxing on Goa beach. After breakfast, spend the day-time leisurely on the beach and evening to explore on your own various facets of Goa. Overnight stay is scheduled in Goa hotel.

Day 14

Goa

After breakfast, you can opt for either half-day sightseeing of Goan monuments and markets or may spend the whole of the day in leisure on beach or in hotel. Overnight stay is scheduled in Goa hotel.

Goa - Departure
